Mark
10:13-16, 17-27
They
brought young children to Him, that He should touch them: and His
disciples rebuked those that brought them.
But
when Jesus saw it,
He was much displeased, and said to them, Suffer
the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not: for of such
is the
kingdom of God.
Verily
I say to you, Whoever shall not receive
the kingdom of God as a little child,
he shall not enter therein.
He took them up in His arms, put His
hands upon them, and blessed them. (parallel passages Matthew
19:13-15, Luke 18:15-17)
Jesus,
here is directing our attention toward what actually matters, in this
statement “of such is the kingdom of God, as a little or young
child, for the one with a child like attitude shall be the one
allowed to enter the kingdom of heaven and of God.”
paraphrased....we must keep in mind the first actions of man as
revealed in Genesis 2 while he was in his innocences before his
creator. Young children are in that innocence until sin or a crime of
misbehavior occurs, this being rebellion against something or some
one.
When
He was gone into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to Him,
and asked Him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit
eternal life? Jesus said to him, Why
call Me good?
there
is
none
good but one,
God.
You
know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not
steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor your father and
mother.
He answered Him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said to him, One
thing you lack: go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the
poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up your
cross, and follow Me.
He became sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great
possessions.
Here
again is found an important key, this youngman had many things of
earthly value that posed him, as his possessions. In other wards, he,
like all of us have unconsciously taken and placed greater value on
things then the kingdom of God's rule. This is what is hidden in
Genesis 3 where the rebellion is first revealed. Man's attention was
changed from a God centered one to a worldly one, known as self, the
sin or crime which all suffer, the
trust in self.
Jesus
looked round about, and said to His disciples, How
hardly shall they that have riches enter into the
kingdom of God!
The disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered them,
Children,
how hard is it for them that
trust in riches
to enter into the
kingdom of God!
It
is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a
rich man to enter into the
kingdom of God.
They were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who
then can be saved? Jesus looking at them saith, With
men
it
is
impossible,
but not with God: for with God all things are possible. (parallel
passages Matthew 19:16-30, Luke 18:18-30)
Mark
12:28-34
One of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together,
and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, Which is
the first commandment of all? Jesus
answered him, The first of all the
commandments
is,
Hear,
O Israel; The
Lord our God is one Lord:
you
shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this
is
the
first commandment.
The
second
is
like,
this,
you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is none other
commandment greater than these.
The scribe said to Him, Well, Master, You have said the truth: for
there is one God; and there is none other but He: to love Him with
all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul,
and with all the strength, and to love your
neighbor as yourself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and
sacrifices. When
Jesus heard how he answered discreetly, He said to him, you
are not far from the
kingdom of God.
No man after that dared ask Him any
question.
(parallel passages Matthew 22:34-46, Luke 10:25-28)
Mark
14:12-21, 22-26 On the first day of unleavened bread, when
they kill the passover, His disciples said to Him, Where will You
have us go to and prepare the meal that we may eat the passover? He
sent two of His disciples, and said to them, Go
into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of
water: follow him. And
wheresoever he shall go in, say to the good man of the house, The
Master says, Where is the guest chamber, where I shall eat the
passover with My disciples? And
he will show you a large upper room furnished
and
prepared:
there make ready for us.
His disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as He had
said to them: and they made ready the passover. In the evening He
come with the twelve. As they sat and eat, Jesus said, Verily
I say to you, One of you which eats with Me shall betray Me.
And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to Him one by one, Is
it me? He answered them, It
is
one
of the twelve, that dips with Me in the dish.
For
the Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of Him: but woe to that
man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if
he had never been born. (parallel
passages Matthew 26:17-25, Luke 22:7-14, 21-23, John 13:21-30; Genesis 3:15, Psalm 22, 69, Isaiah 52:14, 53:1-12, Daniel 9:24, 26, Zechariah 13:7)
As
they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it,
and gave to them, and said, Take,
eat: this is My body.
He took the cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it
to them: and they all drank of it. He said to them, This
is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. Verily
I say to you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until
that day that I drink it new in the
kingdom of God.And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of
Olives. (parallel passages Matthew 26:26-30, Luke 22:15-20,
1Corinthians 11:23-25)
