The
Revelation of being Bond or Free
continued
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the Life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.* But you have not so learned Christ in that manor; If so be that you have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the Truth is in Jesus (John 1:14,17): That you put off concerning the former conversation (way of life in) the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
*I must say this, Paul here speaking to Gentiles could have also included the Hebrews, to include those under their Religious dogma, because as the scriptures bear the record, these characteristics are formalized in all the worlds Religions many doctrine and precepts, which had its roots first known in the garden and acquired in the eating of the forbidden fruit.
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another. Be angry, but sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that has need. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed to the day of (Salvation for) redemption* (must come first as it is our seal by the Holy Spirit who is first deposited at this time within us). Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, along with all malice: And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.
*This
translators may have changed this one word for the other depending on
their own Religious background and church dogma. Sadly we have seen
this happen many times in many translations of the Bible, to man's
shame. Our Redemption must come first because within it we are to learn Christ and our total bankrupcy and undoneness and then our need and dependancy on Him through the teaching, tutoring, and training of the Lord the Spirit of Holiness and Truth. It is while we are in the works of Redemption that we see that we have been given only the power or right to become sons of God while we are learning Christ.
I
want to look at another who was a disciple of the Lord, Jesus while
He ministered to primarily Israel. To hear what he may reveal to us
about those of a Religious spirit though he does not use this term of
expression and this would be Peter.
